It’s been too long…
It has been far too long since I have written a blog post and I think I will chalk it up to both my short attention span and that Face It has been very busy. I love the busy part and the short attention span…well let’s just say that is a work in progress. Tomorrow is Give to the Max Day and this event always gives me pause to reflect on the work we have accomplished at Face It. When we launched this organization back in 2009 I was really afraid that we wouldn’t be successful and that I would be letting so many people down by not helping enough men. I am glad to say I was wrong on both fronts!
Recently, as in back in July, we began a partnership with an organization known as Operation: 23 to Zero to provide a peer support group for active, reserve, and retired military personnel. Our contact at Operation: 23 to Zero is a gentleman by the name of Dave Peters. Dave will probably give me some sort of dirty look for calling him out like this, but my goodness is this an impressive individual. He has so dutifully served our country as a Marine and he works his ass off trying to help vets. The guy inspires me to work harder. And this peer group we are running for vets in conjunction with Dave has been an amazing teacher to me.
The men in this group are loyal, intelligent, fierce, caring, dependable, funny, hard-working, and pushing hard to make sense of this experience we call life. The guys have forced me to look at depression, anxiety, and PTSD in a whole new light and to be motivated to figure out how we at Face It might help these guys. These guys have caused me to lose sleep as I think about their experiences and what the world must look like through their eyes. And they reinforced something that I have known my entire life, the men and women who answer the call to serve in our military are indeed a special type of person.
I am excited to see what 2018 has in store for Face It and my commitment is to blog on a more regular basis. My best to all of you and take care of yourself!
