Lean on us…
As I sat yesterday with a man who is dealing with a number of life’s challenges and listened to him (and I have heard countless other men utter this same nonsense) say “I’m sorry I am bothering you with this and I should just be able to figure this out on my own.” I kind of wanted to break out into this perfectly themed song for Face It, but I figured my singing voice might scare him off. But you, particularly if you’re a man struggling with problems should take a moment and listen close to the lyrics of this awesome song!
I am always saddened when I meet men who live their life under the assumption that they alone are responsible for having all the answers. That they alone are somehow suppose to be immune from the hardships of life. That they alone have to figure it all out with a stoic expression and an emotionless approach. That they alone are…well they alone are all alone. My advice to you and others who live this way? Stop it, just stop it. There isn’t a single person who walks this earth who doesn’t need a friend, a trusted confidant, a buddy with whom they can reveal the pain their experiencing, the shitty thoughts running through their head, the bad decisions they’ve made, and the fears they face.
We all have regret and shame we carry, the sooner you can unburden your soul of these pains, the sooner you can begin to dig in to deal with the issues at hand. I know it’s hard to admit when you’ve screwed up and goodness knows I have plenty of examples of screwing up. But I also know unequivocally that without people in my life with who I can share these issues, I wouldn’t be sitting here typing this blog because the pain would’ve ultimately won out and God only knows where I might be. WE HAVE TO LEARN HOW TO SHARE OUR CHALLENGES WITH TRUSTED OTHERS! Oh and then you probably have to learn the next step, which is to be open to considering their ideas for moving forward, but that is another blog for another day.
As the song sings to us, “You just call on me brother, when you need a hand. We all need somebody to lean on. I just might have a problem that you’ll understand. We all need somebody to lean on” If you find you don’t have a trusted person in your life you can share your problems with…well problem solved because you can always contact us here at Face It and I promise you we will be here!
Take care!
