Here we go!
It is hard to believe that the calendar is telling me it’s 2018 because what seems like yesterday, the launch of Face It, is already approaching 9 years ago! How is that possible? Time sure flies when you’re busy having fun and growing. I was going to do a re-cap of our accomplishments over the last 9 years, but I think I’ll save that for our 10-year anniversary. So instead let’s look ahead to what 2018 has in store for us.
After a fun and successful 7-year run of our favorite fundraiser, Alive at the Market, we have decided to shift gears just a bit and bring you ALIVE AT THE LINKS! We are super excited to have our 1st Annual Golf Tournament which will take place on Monday September 10th (noon shotgun start) at beautiful (and challenging!) Majestic Oaks Golf Course in Ham Lake, MN. With a scramble format (your 4-person team selecting the best shot to use as you make your way down the fairway) we want ALL levels of skill to participate. I am sure Bill, Dan, and myself will be out there working our way toward a seriously low score! We are in search of golfers, sponsors, raffle items, and people who want to have fun! Stay tuned for more information.
Okay after thinking about golf I am certain you must be getting hungry?! So…put your appetite on notice and get ready for BBQ at the Market Annex! Beginning in April and treating you through the end of October, Face It will have a booth down at the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market (200 E Lyndale Ave N Minneapolis) where we will be serving Bill’s famous BBQ! This unique opportunity will help Face It continue to provide all our peer support services for free! For more information please check out our Facebook page, give us a “Like”, and make sure you come down to get a sandwich, some chili, or an incredible BBQ egg bowl!
In addition to these two new events, Face It will continue to offer our men’s groups, of which we now have 11! If you know of a man who is suffering from depression, anxiety, or simply struggling with life’s challenges, please be sure to let him know about Face It. A simple and quick phone call or email to me (651-200-4297 or mmeier@faceitfoundation.org) is all it takes to get started with one of our groups which will open the door to many new and helpful friendships!
Please keep an eye on our calendar for additional social events, retreats, and education classes that we will be offering during 2018. And of course, if there are any other programs you’d like to see offered or if you have ideas for other ways to support Face It, I would love to hear from you!
Take care!
Mark
